Isn't it funny how these three things, as perfect as they are on paper, rarely ever manifest in one's life? Simply put, we all like the idea of love, mercy and forgiveness yet when the times comes to apply them in real life ... we rarely do. Why?
Because these are the most difficult to manifest. It's most difficult to let yourself love and open up to someone. To have mercy and forgiveness one has to raise very high above him or herself and their feelings which I personally know is very difficult for me to do.
Perhaps the issue is that we never truly comprehend the meanings of mercy, love, and forgiveness. The meanings of these virtues are not comprehendible by the mind. Hence, mere contemplation never brings one to a point where he or she can practice them. To feel them, one must try to put them into practice, and be open to reevaluating what love and forgiveness mean. I have been unable to forgive myself, and show true mercy towards myself, and to consequently come to truly love myself. I am not sure which one comes first. I do know, however, that I am not the only one who struggles with finding the meanings of these virtues. I can only conclude that this learning is a life-long process, and that we are all in this together.
